CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Officials in Horry County say recent flooding along the Waccamaw River has not caused bacteria to increase to dangerous levels.

Coastal Carolina University's Environmental Quality Laboratory tested samples taken last week after weeks of runoff and rain upstream pushed the river out of its banks.

Authorities say the tests found that fecal coliform and E. coli bacteria levels were below the maximum allowed by state water quality standards.

The Waccamaw River will remain above flood stage for several days. Officials say residents should still be careful with strong currents and submerged debris in flood waters.
