Huger man will spend more than 8 years in prison for gun, drug charges

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A Huger man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison on gun and drug charges.

According to United States Attorney William N. Nettles, 34-year-old Reginald Tyriece Smalls will spend more than eight years in prison. Smalls was found in possession of cocaine, marijuana and two handguns in December of 2011.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department said Smalls was arrested after he was involved in a traffic accident and then fled the scene to a nearby grocery store.

When officers found Smalls hiding in the grocery store's bathroom, he was in possession of both of the guns and drugs, authorities say.

According to the press release, Smalls was convicted of possession with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine base, cocaine and marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm with an altered or obliterated serial number.
