Man tased, arrested after gun found during traffic checkpoint

COTTAGEVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A 35-year-old man was tased and arrested late Friday night at a traffic checkpoint after Cottageville police say he tried to run away while carrying a loaded handgun during a search.

Police say the incident took place on Friday, July 26 around 11:20 p.m. at a traffic safety checkpoint on Cottageville Highway and Bama Road.

The report states officers spotted an open beer in a car driven by Roderick Greene of Georgetown. Officers then searched Greene and the car.

While frisking Green, police say the suspect jerked away and then tried to run.

The report states an officer was able to grab Greene's leg causing him to fall. When Greene fell, a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun fell out from his waist line.

Greene, who police say was resisting arrest, was then tased once by two officers and arrested.

Officers say $3,640 and two marijuana cigarettes were found in Greene's pockets.

Greene was charged with simple possession of marijuana, weapon law violations, and resisting arrest.
