CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say a second suspect has been arrested for a West Ashley home burglary in which $4,000 worth of jewelry and more than $2,000 worth of electronic equipment were stolen.
Phillip Daniel Jewell II, 19, was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree burglary and grand larceny.
Police say Jewell was out on bond for the June 24 burglary of a Wabeek Way home when he and 18-year-old Ahshaad Mykiel Owens kicked in the rear door of a home on Madagascar Court on July 30 and ransacked the residence.
Investigators say the two teens stole $4,000 worth of jewelry, along with a laptop, two digital cameras, and an iPad 2.
Police say the burglary took place sometime between 9 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. while the victim was away. When she returned, she found dresser drawers on the bedroom floor, an empty jewelry container, desk drawers open, and a damaged rear door.
Owens was arrested last week and charged with second-degree burglary and grand larceny.
Both suspects are being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
