DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating after an audit revealed funds missing from the Dorchester County Detention Center.
Sheriff L.C. Knight said Tuesday a random internal audit showed an "unknown amount" of missing funds in an account at the jail.
The audit was conducted last Thursday. No suspects have been identified.
Knight was not able to offer more details at the time.
The investigation is ongoing.
It's not the first time in recent years money's gone missing at the jail. In April 2008, a grand jury indicted the jail's chief, Arnold Pastor, on charges he embezzled nearly $360,00 from the facility. Pastor resigned after an audit revealed the missing money.
He was later sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to the charges.
