Pentagon cuts number of furlough days from 11 to 6

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Thousands of local Department of Defense workers will soon get more money back in their paychecks.

The Pentagon has cut the number of furlough days for those employees from 11 to 6. That affects 2600 employees at SPAWAR and 1100 at Joint Base Charleston.

The last furlough day is now expected to be Aug. 16. Furloughs were expected to last through Sept.  20.

The furloughs are to make up money lost through automatic federal spending cuts, known as sequestration.
