Worker directing traffic fatally struck by car in Williamsburg County

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a worker who was directing traffic in Williamsburg County was fatally struck by a car Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened on Highway 261 east of Hemingway.

According to Highway Patrol, the victim was part of a tree cutting crew service, and was directing traffic when the incident occurred.

Authorities say a 2003 Mercury was traveling on the highway when it fatally struck the worker, then struck a truck.

The crash remains under investigation.
