SC State held the first of staggered two-a-drills Thursday with a 9:30 a.m. practice and a 7:10 evening workout, it was more of a learning process for some of his players according to Coach Buddy Pough.
Pough called the morning workout, which was conducted in full pads an enthusiastic live session but was a little rough at times. The hardest thing to do in the first part of camp is try to gear some of these guys down, Pough noted.
"We did a lot of team-style and installation type drills," said Pough. "I think defensively we are still a little bit ahead of the offense, but at the same time I do see us enjoying the new style offense we are trying to get going."
"I like seeing some new faces around here and guys getting after it, so tomorrow we will try and get a lot of work done in preparation for our first scrimmage on Saturday"
The evening session, which was conducted in shells, also featured some individual and team-style drills on both offense and defense.
"The intensity is still there and I think for the most part we are pushing these guys to keep that level as high as they possibly can through camp," Pough said. "That's been more mission to pick up the intensity"
Pough noted that his team still was making progress and still have a couple more days of installation to get to a comfortable point. He said he sees more improvement in his quarterback situation and it will be interesting to see how it plays out in the end.
SC State will return to practice Friday (Aug. 9) morning in a 9:30 a.m. workout session in full pads. Media and Picture Day will be held Saturday (Aug.10) beginning at 9 a.m. at O.C. Dawson Stadium, followed by the Bulldogs first scrimmage during the evening at 7 p.m.
