NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A North Charleston teen who was shot in the head and chest on Saturday has died as a result of complications from the injuries, according to the Charleston County Coroner's Office.
North Charleston police say 19-year-old Bervin Green was shot in the left side of his chest and his forehead at a home on Napoleon Drive Saturday just before 11:30 a.m.
Officers say 21-year-old Jared Lavour Carson turned himself in to authorities later in the day.
According to an incident report, officers responded to the home to find the victim's brother and girlfriend tending to him in an upstairs bedroom.
The girlfriend told investigators she heard a knock on the front door, and heard a voice saying "it's your neighbor, let me in." When she opened the door, she said an unknown man place a black revolver in her face and asked where the 19-year-old victim was. The girlfriend said the man grabbed her and forced her upstairs, where he tucked her away in a bedroom.
Moments later, the girlfriend said she heard a couple of gunshots. She said she waited a few seconds before exiting the bedroom and finding her boyfriend on the floor with blood coming from his head and chest.
The victim's brother told police he was asleep when the shooting happened.
Carson was charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was issued a $200,000 bond and remains at the Charleston County Detention Center.
Carson's charges have been upgraded to murder.
