HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - An Horry County fugitive died last week following an officer-involved shooting in Alabama, according to authorities.
The Horry County Sheriff's Office identified the fugitive as 57-year-old Brent Dotson who was wanted for failure to appear for a sexual conduct case involving a minor.
Deputies said Dotson was on the sheriff's office top ten most wanted list for failure to appear on charges that he had lewd sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 16.
The sheriff's office said Dotson was last seen in Myrtle Beach earlier this year. That's where his last known home address was.
On Friday, Dotson was shot and killed near a mobile home park on Slaughter Road in Alabama.
The incident started when Huntsville police officers responded to a suspicious person call that morning. According to authorities, when officers arrived, they found Dotson had a weapon.
Police said Dotson fired his gun, and officers fired back. It's not yet clear whether Dotson shot and killed himself, or whether an officer shot him.
Police said an officer is on administrative leave, which is routine for any officer-involved shooting.
