SC State Returns to Practice Field After Day Off

Posted: Updated:
ORANGEBURG, SC -

SC State, following a day off Sunday, returned to the practice field Monday with two workouts – a 9:30 morning session and a 7 p.m. evening drill. Both workouts were conducted in shells, in part to keep the players on their feet and to avoid injuries, according to Bulldog head coach Buddy Pough.

"It was a pretty regular morning session," Pough said. "We still got a lot of work to do and after today seems like we have even more. I thought I had a good feel about things and seems as though we are not quite assignment ready, but those are some things we will work on correcting. I am sure the evening session will be even more full of life"

Some of Monday's work was devoted to correcting mistakes made in Saturday's scrimmage, the first of the preseason for the Bulldogs.

"After reviewing the film (from the scrimmage), we have a few things need to fix," Pough said. "The one thing I did notice is we have plenty of guys giving effort, the mistakes are not because lack of effort we just have to concrete hard and don't miss the little things."

In Monday's evening workout, Pough noted was better with the guys showing more life, he also pointed out that the first part of practice was devoted to special teams and they seem to be coming along really well. We worked a good bit on individual style schemes and waist up team style drills."

Pough also commented for the most part his team is pretty healthy minus a few bumps and bruises and some bothered by ankle injuries, but nothing major to keep them sidelined.

Despite, coming off one the worst seasons at 5-6 under Pough's tenure, The Boxtorow HBCU FCS coaches' poll administered by FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW and is voted on by the HBCU Football Championship Subdivision coaches picked SC State 10th in the preseason poll.

The Bulldogs resume preseason workouts Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. The session will be in full pads, Pough noted.
