Tropical Storm Erin forms in Atlantic

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The fifth tropical storm of the season has formed in the Atlantic Ocean.

Tropical Storm Erin formed at 8 a.m. Thursday off the southwest coast of the Cape Verde Islands.  The storm is moving west-northwest at 16 miles per hour with max wind speeds of 40 miles per hour.

It's expected to strengthen slightly as it moves towards the Caribbean over the next five days.
