CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - More than 700 freshmen are reporting to The Citadel from the largest pool of applicants in the history of the South Carolina military college.
Freshmen arrive on the campus overlooking the Ashley River on Saturday.
They have been selected from a pool of 2,958 applicants - the largest in the history of state school that was founded in 1842.
On Monday the freshmen begin military training and get their close-cropped haircuts from which they are referred to as knobs.
