(RNN) - Lee Thompson Young, best known as the lead character in the Disney Channel television series The Famous Jett Jackson, has died.
Police confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the 29-year-old was found at approximately 9:45 a.m. PT dead of an apparent suicide by gunshot.
According to TMZ, Young's landlord discovered his body in his Los Angeles home with a gunshot that may be self-inflicted.
Young was currently starring as Boston police detective Barry Frost in the TNT drama Rizzoli & Isles.
"We're devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him," Rizzoli and Islestweeted.
Rain Management Group released the following statement:
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of our long time client and friend, Lee Thompson Young. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family and friends."
"Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly missed," long-time manager John Baruch said in a statement. "We ask that you please respect the privacy of his family and friends as this very difficult time.
The rising star also co-starred in films such as: Akeelah and the Bee, Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story and Friday Night Lights.
