CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 32-year-old woman is behind bars after police say she stole a car that was left running, drove through downtown and parked the vehicle on Reid Street.
The Charleston Police Department charged Latarsha Lakeisha Grant with two counts of grand larceny.
On Sunday morning, a police officer on patrol in the area of Columbus and Hanover streets was flagged down by a woman who said her car had been stolen.
Authorities say they located the victim's car five minutes later parked and locked up on Reid Street.
The victim said she had left her car unlocked and running as she went into a store on Columbus Street to buy cigarettes. When she left the store, her car was gone.
According to the victim, she then saw her car being driven on America Street. The store clerk said there was video footage of the suspect, who he said was a regular customer.
Residents in the area told police that the woman had taken another vehicle a week prior and had "just left it and walked away."
Based on citizen tips, authorities located Grant. An incident report states, police found a sweatshirt at Grant's home which matched the one described by the victim and seen on surveillance video.
