COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley says she needs all state agencies to take a good look at how they're handling information security.
Haley told her agency directors during a Cabinet meeting Tuesday they need to make sure they have good employees in information technology and security areas. Haley told directors to "get rid of them" if they're not confident in the people handling that information.
About 6.4 million taxpayers and businesses had Social Security and bank account numbers stolen in the hacking of computers at South Carolina's Department of Revenue last year.
Revenue director Bill Blume said during a presentation Tuesday that his agency is now much more focused on security and relies on multiple layers to keep the department's information safe.
