Concrete spill on the Crosstown shuts down multiple lanes

Posted: Updated:
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Downtown traffic around the Crosstown has been stop and go Saturday afternoon after authorities say a concrete truck dumped roughly 200 pounds of wet concrete across multiple lanes.

Charleston police say the concrete was spilled across three southbound lanes of the Crosstown near Ashley Avenue by an unknown truck around 1:30 p.m.  .

Traffic is currently open to only one lane between Rutledge and the Crosstown.

South Carolina Department of Transportation is responding to the spill, and the cleanup is expected to be lengthy.

The Parks Department is also on the scene as crews work to remove the concrete.
