Deputies investigating car break-ins at Beaufort community

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities are investigating a series of car break-ins that happened in a Beaufort County community Saturday night.

Officials with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office say they received six to seven reports Sunday morning of vehicle break-ins at the Cat Island community.

Authorities say there were no signs of forced entry or damage to any of the vehicles which appeared to be left unlocked by their owners.

A report states the items stolen were cash, jewelry and sunglasses.

One victim reported that a golf cart had been stolen from their driveway, however the sheriff's office says the vehicle was recovered a short time later, abandoned off Islands Causeway.

The sheriff's office is encouraging residents to secure their vehicles and property by keeping windows up and doors locked, and to refrain from leaving behind keys or items in their vehicles.

Authorities are asking residents to report any suspicious people or activity to the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at (843) 524-2777.
