Lowcountry native Shelby Rogers fell in the 1st round of the U.S. Open to France's Caroline Garcia in straight sets on Monday 6-3, 6-2.
It was the third appearance in a major and 2nd this year for Rogers, who won a match in the French Open in the Spring.
"I think she just played a little better than I did today. She had a real solid day, she was serving well and I didn't get many looks." Rogers said after her match.
She certainly wasn't blown away by Garcia, at least not in the stat book. Rogers had the same number of winners, same number of aces and 1 less unforced error. But she couldn't overcome Garcia's play.
"I didn't play badly, she just played a little better than I did. There's always things you can do a little bit better but I can't really complain"
Rogers time in New York isn't over though. She's still playing in the women's doubles tournament. She and her partner Maria Sanchez will have their first match against Kiki Bertens and Johanna Larsson.
"I've got to keep training and working hard here (for doubles) so I can't get too down."
