CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Employees at a popular downtown Charleston restaurant have found themselves out of a job after the owner suddenly decided to close for renovations last week.
Jestine's Kitchen on Meeting Street closed its doors last Thursday during the busy lunch hour. Owner Dana Strange said she decided it was time for renovations, and sent all 31 of her employees home.
The sudden closure means they are now without a job.
Strange said she is not concerned about her employees being able to find other jobs because there are plenty of restaurants in the Charleston area. She also said she would provide great references for them, and they could return when renovations are completed.
With the restaurant closed indefinitely, Strange said she will use the time not only for renovations, but also to spend time with her family.
When asked if she thought the closure was sudden, Strange replied, "I'm a woman."
The renovations will include redoing the kitchen floor and plumbing, Strange said.
