Charleston, SC (AP) - U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn says he will run for a 12th term in Washington next year.
Clyburn told reporters in Charleston on Tuesday that he feel fine, his health is good and he can still play 36 holes of golf a day.
Clyburn will be 74 by the time of the 2014 elections. He was the first black to serve in Congress from South Carolina since Reconstruction. He's also the No. 3 Democrat in the House of Representatives and the only Democrat in the South Carolina congressional delegation.
Clyburn spoke with reporters after an announcement that developing drugs in South Carolina pumps more than $4 billion into the state economy.
The announcement came at a research building at the Medical University of South Carolina that bears Clyburn's name.
