BEAUFORT, SC (WCSC) - Beaufort County deputies say they have arrested a St. Helena man in connection with a fire that destroyed his ex-girlfriend's home on Legree Rd. Monday afternoon.

Willie Antonio Aiken, 32, was arrested Monday night and charged with arson.

Investigators say Aiken intentionally set fire to his ex-girlfriend's home just after 4:30 p.m. Monday.

According to a release, Aiken was spotted inside the home by a child who lived at the house. Aiken told the child to leave, but when she came back a few minutes later, deputies say the child saw Aiken pouring an unknown liquid onto the laundry room floor.

Deputies say the child ran away after she saw Aiken light a match and throw it on the floor.

The release states witnesses saw Aiken leave the home in a green Chevy Suburban. Aiken was later found at a family member's home and arrested.

Deputies say Aiken previously reported his 2013 Buick Century missing around 3 p.m. Monday, claiming his ex-girlfriend's 15-year-old son took it without his permission.

The car was found in the parking lot of the Gloria Potts Community Center around 5 p.m. fully engulfed in flames, officials say.

If you have any information on these incidents, call Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
