NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston police arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman after smoking crack earlier this week.

According to an incident report, officers responded to the Rodeway Inn on Dorchester Road around 3 p.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of a woman with suicidal thoughts.  They spoke with the alleged victim who told them "she could not take it anymore," before agreeing to be taken to the hospital.

While they were in the hotel room, officers said a paramedic told them the woman said the man she was staying in the room with, 48-year-old Tyrone Habersham, of North Charleston, sexually assaulted her.  The alleged victim then told investigators she had come to Charleston about four days ago after Habersham sent her a bus ticket to "start a new life after her divorce."

The woman said between 9 p.m. and midnight Tuesday, Habersham sexually assaulted her after smoking crack.  The alleged victim said she did not know the area and was scared so she called police.

EMS took the woman to the hospital for an evaluation.

Police took Habersham into custody just before midnight Wednesday and booked him at the Charleston County Detention Center.  He is charged with criminal sexual conduct.
