CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - An Awendaw man was arrested Thursday after officers say he used old receipts to return $47.68 worth of non-purchased items at a West Ashley Walmart.

Joshua Satchell, 38 has been charged with obtaining goods by false pretenses, and is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.

According to an incident report, Satchell entered the department store with an empty shopping cart on Thursday around 5:50 p.m. The suspect then grabbed a number of items from around the store before heading towards customer service.

Police say Satchell used old receipts from previous purchases to return the brand new items, and then left the store.

Satchell was captured during a traffic stop on Glenn McConnell Parkway and Magwood Drive around 6:30 p.m. after officers spotted a car matching a description given by a Walmart Loss Prevention employee, the report states.

Officers say the incident was captured on surveillance footage.
