GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County sheriff's deputies have arrested a 37-year-old man on charges of child solicitation.
Investigators arrested Michael Wayne Manar of Goose Creek last Friday.
Authorities say the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office received a complaint from a man who said a family friend was sending inappropriate text messages to his teenage stepdaughter.
According to investigators, an undercover detective took over the girl's account and began texting with Manar. During the conversation, Manar told the undercover detective, who was posing as the victim, he wanted to meet her for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity, an report states.
He was arrested on Sept. 6 after showing up at the rendezvous point.
Manar is charged with criminal solicitation of a minor, a felony offense punishable by up to ten years imprisonment, and attempted criminal sexual conduct with a minor, second degree, a felony offense punishable by up to twenty years in prison.
Manar was assigned a $45,000 surety bond and ordered to have no contact with children under the age of 17, to have no access to the Internet or cell phones and stay at least one half mile from areas where children congregate, such as daycare facilities, playgrounds, schools, libraries and public parks.
