BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A search is currently underway in Seabrook for a man who fell from his boat while traveling in the Wimbee Creek non Wednesday, authorities say.
Beaufort County Sheriff's Sergeant Robin McIntosh said deputies joined the Sheldon Fire Department, Coast Guard, and SCDNR in the search for the 54-year-old man who was ejected around 10:30 a.m.
Witnesses reported seeing the boat traveling in the Wimbee Creek just before Whale Branch when they noticed the boat make a sudden, hard turn and a person being thrown into the water. As witnesses went to help, they made contact with a second occupant of the boat, who said his friend fell into the water when the steering wheel broke free from the column.
The second occupant sustained no injuries and was helped to shore where law enforcement was immediately contacted. The victim is a black male and was last seen wearing a brown shirt and boots. Searches are commencing from land, water and air.
The investigation is being led by SC DNR with the assistance of aforementioned agencies.
