CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The bells tolled in downtown Charleston on Wednesday at the Charleston Fire Department to honor 9/11 first responders who lost their lives in the attack.
Firefighters held a remembrance ceremony to pay tribute to their own. A bell rang 343 times for each fallen firefighter who died responding to the twin towers as they fell on September 11.
The event started at exactly 9:59 a.m., the time when the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed 12 years ago.
Other places across the Lowcountry also paid tribute. Pinewood Prepatory School in Summerville hosted a day of remembrance.
