Motorist dies after striking ditch, tree and road sign

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has identified a man who was killed during a single-vehicle wreck in Berkeley County early Thursday.

Deputy Coroner Darnell Hartwell says 45-year-old Jackie Moore of Summerville was traveling on Old Dairy Road when he ran off the roadway around 4:55 a.m.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said the driver was headed west when he left the roadway and struck a ditch, a tree, and a highway road sign before coming to a rest.

Hartwell says Moore was trapped in the vehicle and then taken to Trident Hospital, where he died.

Moore was wearing a seatbelt, according to Hartwell.
