NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Daimler Vans Manufacturing announced Thursday it will be expanding its current Charleston County van assembly plant.
Company officials say the expansion is expected to create at least 60 new jobs, as more than $4.6 million will be invested into the facility.
"We are thrilled to grow our operations here in Charleston County," said Marco Wirtz, president and CEO of Daimler Vans Manufacturing, in a statement. "South Carolina has provided our company with an excellent environment for doing business and a talented workforce."
Daimler, which distributes vans from the plant to markets across the country, will use the money to make improvements to the building and to change the current assembly line.
Officials say the expansion should be completed by 2018.
Daimler Vans Manufacturing assembles Sprinters for the US market under the Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner brands. The Charleston County assembly plant is located at 8501 Palmetto Commerce Parkway.
