CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Members of the New York City Fire Department are bringing a 3-foot steel beam from the World Trade Center to The Citadel in Charleston.
The presentation is taking place Friday just before the military college's 3:30 p.m. dress parade.
The fragment is a piece of a floor beam from one of the towers. School officials say they are pleased to have the fragment since many of the current students were in grade school at the time of the terrorist attacks 12 years ago.
Some of the cadets were motivated to join the military after the terrorist strikes.
School officials say the beam will be displayed in the lobby of Capers Hall.
