Police: Woman answering Craigslist ad carjacked in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say they are investigating a carjacking in North Charleston.

Officials with the North Charleston Police Department say around 2 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to Twitty Street in reference to a female victim being kidnapped.

The victim told police that it all started when she answered an ad on Craigslist to buy a cell phone from a female subject.

According to the victim, when she arrived at the agreed upon place, the Waffle House on Aviation Avenue, she was approached by a black male suspect, described as 6'1" and 200 pounds.

Police say the suspect took out a handgun, forced the victim into the driver's seat and told her to slide over. A police report states the suspect then got into the driver's seat and drove towards the Russeldale neighborhood.

Authorities say the victim was then told to get out of the vehicle near Twitty Street. The suspect then took off.

The victim was able to call police using a phone at a nearby home. Authorities say a short time later, the victim's vehicle was found outside an apartment complex on Kerry Street.

Police say the victim was not injured, and the incident remains under investigation.
