BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A North Charleston police officer was taken to the hospital after he was rear-ended by an SUV driver on Interstate 26, authorities say.
South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers said the 49-year-old officer was heading east in his unmarked 2009 Chevy Impala when the accident happened near mile marker 203 around 7:30 a.m.
Troopers said the officer slowed for traffic, but was struck from behind by a 2003 Chevy SUV driven by a 27-year-old woman.
EMS responders transported the officer to Trident Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the SUV was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
