SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Broughton Street is getting a Spongebob makeover. Well, at least a temporary Spongebob makeover. Whether it's Bikinibottom, or another imaginary location, is anyone's guess.

But for now, a few historic buildings in Savannah will remain a coral shade as downtown gets ready for a film crews to move in next month.

On Oct. 9, "Spongebob the Sequel" begins filming in downtown Savannah, and crews are painting some of the buildings coral colors near Drayton and Broughton streets to create a beachside feeling for the live-action production, the Savannah Film Office tells WTOC.

However, the buildings must all go back to their original colors after production wraps due to permit rules and historic guidelines.

There was a meeting with businesses Wednesday afternoon at the Metropolitan Planning Commission to discuss everything they needed to know about the Spongebob filming.

Prep crews powerwashed sidewalks and buildings and painted them this week, and will have to paint them back to original colors in November, after production is completed.
