Party for the Parks to raise money for Colonial Lake renovation

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Parks Conservancy will launch a fundraising campaign for the $5 million Colonial Lake renovation project at this weekends Party for the Parks.

Party for the Parks - Amusement on the Avenue will take place Saturday, Sept. 21 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Colonial Lake.

The renovation project is a group effort between the Parks Conservancy, the City of Charleston, and the Historic Charleston Foundation. The project will include design, engineering, repairs, new construction and landscaping of Colonial Lake.

Renovations include a new flushing system, gardens, a promenade around the lake, seating and gathering places, and changes to increase pedestrian safety.

With $4 million already committed by the City of Charleston, the fundraising project is tasked with raising the additional $1 million, plus an additional $200,000 for ongoing maintenance.

Construction is set to begin May 2014 and wrap up in July 2015.

Tickets for the event are $65 in advance and $85 at the door. Tickets prices include food, drinks, and entertainment.
