CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Today marks 24-years since Hurricane Hugo made landfall into the Charleston Harbor and took aim towards McClellanville.
Hurricane Hugo was a category 4 storm that caused seven billion dollars in damage and killed 27 people in South Carolina. The storm put much of the Lowcountry under water.
There were thousands of trees damaged in the Francis Marion National Forest and a portion of the Ben Sawyer Bridge was damaged as well.
Hugo was the strongest hurricane that has hit South Carolina.
