Charleston Southern running back Ben Robinson has been named The Crons Brand Big South Football Freshman of the Week for his performance in the Bucs' 20-12 victory over Norfolk State on Saturday.
Robinson rushed for a career-high 98 yards on 12 carries and scored his first collegiate touchdown to help CSU improve to 4-0 for the second time in program history.
The Tallahassee, Fla. native put his speed on display to jumpstart the Bucs' offense and break a scoreless tie on CSU's first possession of the second quarter. Robinson started the drive with a 39-yard run down the left sideline, as he broke away from several NSU defenders after it appeared he was stopped for a short gain. He added a 20-yard run several plays later to give CSU first-and-goal, and then took an option pitch from Dixon into the end zone for a two-yard touchdown on the next play.
Robinson has teamed with juniors Christian Reyes and Zach Frazier to give the Bucs a dynamic trio of running backs. He is third on the team in rushing with 191 yards on 35 carries, and leads CSU with an average of 5.5 yards per carry. Robinson also has three receptions for 20 yards.
The Bucs are back in action this Saturday as they make the trip to Boone, N.C. to square off against Appalachian State. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
