CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP/WCSC) - The South Carolina Aquarium Turtle Hospital welcomed a new loggerhead turtle patient from New Jersey Tuesday.
William Kindle, who is on the board of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, N.J., flew the 75-pound turtle to Charleston on his airplane..
The turtle will receive long-term care at the South Carolina Aquarium.
The turtle was found earlier this month at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station in Forked River, N.J. It was missing most of its rear right flipper and was not using its rear left flipper either, leaving it basically with no back flippers.
Treatment at the South Carolina Aquarium will consist of physical therapy of the paralyzed flipper and cold laser therapy for the wounded flipper.
