Charleston council passes first reading of texting ban

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston City Council passed the first reading of the proposed texting-while-driving ban on Tuesday night.

Barbara Vaughn, spokeswoman for Major Joe Riley's office, said the ordinance was amended to reflect the ordinance recently passed in neighboring Mt. Pleasant.  That ordinance prohibits looking at or sending texts, email, or pictures while driving.

Charleston's ban still has to pass a second and third reading.
