Walterboro traffic stop leads to three arrests, stolen electronics

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Three people are behind bars after police say they found $1,000 worth of stolen electronics during a traffic stop in Walterboro.

The Walterboro Public Safety Department charged 26-year-old Brandi Goff, 26-year-old Maurice Jeffcoat and 18-year-old Dominique Hyatt with possession of stolen property. Hyatt was also charged with unlawful carrying of a handgun.

It all started Wednesday morning, when a police officer saw a car traveling down Proctor Street towards Henderson Street.  According to police, when the driver of the car saw the officer's patrol car, the suspect's car decelerated quickly and made an abrupt left turn onto Blanchard Street.

Police say when they stopped the car on Moore Street, officers saw a large flat screen TV in the back of the car. Officers also saw two people, Hyatt and Jeffcoat, squeezed into the passenger side of the vehicle.

A police report states that another passenger, Brandi Goff, was in the back sitting next to a 46 inch TV. When officers took a look at the TV's serial number, they found it matched the numbers of a TV that had been stolen hours earlier in Walterboro Village next to Goff's apartment.

Authorities also found a Sony Wii in the backseat of the passenger side floor board.

Investigators say they also found a gun in a purse, which Hyatt claimed was hers. Hyatt told officers that she carried the gun for protection, and the firearm belonged to her grandmother.

Authorities recovered a Sony Bravio TV, an Emerson flat screen TV and a Sony WII game system, all of which totaled $1,000.
