Coroner identifies motorcyclist killed in Summerville accident

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The Dorchester County Coroner's Office has identified a man who was killed in an accident involving a motorcycle Friday morning on Old Trolley Road.

Coroner Christopher Nisbet said 59-year-old Ronald Wayne Stewart of Summerville died of massive head trauma and multiple extremity fractures. Nisbet said Wayne was not wearing a helmet.

According to Nisbet, Wayne was on his way to work which was a mile from the accident scene.

Officials say the accident happened just before 7 a.m. at the intersection of Savannah Round, in front of the Iron Gate subdivision.

According to Highway Patrol, a Harley Davidson motorcycle slammed into a Chevy Blazer when the driver of the SUV failed to yield when attempting to turn left into Iron Gate Subdivision.

The motorcyclist, Wayne, died as a result of the accident, according to officials on the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
