CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says a lockdown at an elementary school on Wadmalaw Island has been lifted following an investigation of possible shots fired in the area.
At 12:40 p.m., officials with the sheriff's office say they were notified of shots being heard, possibly hunters, in the wooded area behind the Edith L. Frierson Elementary School on 6133 Maybank Hwy.
Authorities say the school was placed on temporary lockdown until the sheriff's office could check the area. According to officials with the sheriff's office, following a search, no one was located in the area.
The school has since lifted the lockdown which lasted less than two hours, the sheriff's office says.
