Bond set at $500k for man charged in connection with man's death

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Bond was set at $500,000 for a 34-year-old man who has been charged with kidnapping in connection to the death of a 35-year-old man.

Delvin A. Seagers of North Charleston was arrested by Charleston County detectives and the U.S. Marshals Task Force Thursday afternoon.

The sheriff's office says Seagers' arrest stems from an investigation on Aug. 10 after deputies responded to Pine Hill Road in Ravenel in reference to a body being located. The body was identified as 35-year-old Nathaniel Forbes of Charleston.

According to investigators, Seagers and another individual, who has not been identified, were involved with Forbes in a drug deal on Aug. 9 when Seagers paid Forbes $8,000. An incident report states Forbes later left his home and told a witness that he was going to fix a problem that happened during a drug deal with Seagers.

The witness told investigators they later began getting phone calls from Forbes' cell phone, however Forbes was not the caller. When asked about Forbes, the caller said Forbes was "with his friends" and identified himself as the person who gave Forbes the money, and that he wanted the money back.

The sheriff's office says the witness was able to identify Seagers as the caller.

Authorities are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information is asked call detectives at (843) 202-1700 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.

A bond hearing is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
