GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) -

A man and woman were able to escape their burning Goose Creek home with their dog on Friday morning.

Goose Creek Rural Fire Department officials say they were called to the fire on Milton Drive, in St. James Estates, around 3:45 a.m.

Firefighters said the residents had fallen asleep on the couch watching TV.  They woke up hours later to find smoke and flames coming through the bottom of the garage door to the home.

They grabbed their dog and ran outside.

When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting through the roof on the back side of the home.

Chief Mike Haines says the house suffered extensive damage.  An antique Mustang and a number of boating materials stored inside the garage were also damaged.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
