Family, friends to hold vigil for mother, daughter murdered in Summerville

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Family and friends will hold a vigil Friday for the woman and her daughter who authorities say were murdered during a domestic violence incident in the Sangaree area of Summerville.

The vigil will be held at 8 p.m. at 302 Kershaw Road, the home of 26-year-old Ashley Nicole Kaney and her 8-year-old daughter, Riley Burdick.

Kaney and Burdick were found dead in the home earlier this week. Kaney's boyfriend, 22-year-old Jacob Philip, later confessed to killing them during a domestic violence incident, authorities say.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and organizers of the vigil say they will be remembering everyone who has suffered from it.

A funeral service for Kaney and Burdick will be held this Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cedar Creek Church. The family will begin greeting friends at the church at 2 p.m.
