Thomas Warren was named the Southern Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday for his game-winning 35-yard field goal in overtime to help lift the Bulldogs to a 31-28 win over Appalachian State at Johnson Hagood Stadium on Saturday.
Mitchell Jeter intercepted a pass on Appalachian State's opening possession of the overtime period, which set up Warren's game-winning kick, the second of his career. The Mt. Pleasant, S.C., native was a perfect 4-of-4 on extra point attempts in the game, extending his Citadel record for most successful PAT attempts to 64.
The award is Warren's second of his career as the redshirt senior also receiving the honor after booting three field goals, including the game-winning 37-yarder with 35 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter in last year's 23-21 victory over Georgia Southern.
The Citadel hits the road as it heads to Statesboro, Ga., to take on the Eagles for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday.
