BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Investigators have charged a man with murder in connection to a 2009 shooting death of a Seabrook Island man.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says 26-year-old Jeremy Levon Murphy was arrested in Jasper County on unrelated charges last Thursday.

Murphy was wanted on one count of murder for a shooting that took the life of 27-year-old Ronald Coleman, Jr. Authorities say Coleman was shot to death at his Seabrook Road home on the night of June 22, 2009.

A sheriff's office report states that evidence at the scene suggested that multiple shots were exchanged between the victim and the suspect.

Investigators say authorities charged Murphy's co-defendant, 36-year-old Antonio Eugene Collins, in November of 2011 after DNA analysis of bloodstains placed Collins at the crime scene.

The sheriff's office says investigators continued to work on the case and were able to seek an arrest warrant for Murphy last week.

Following Murphy's arrest in Jasper, he was returned to the Beaufort County Detention Center on Monday to face the murder charge.
