SUMMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The Summerville YMCA held their third annual Breast Cancer Awareness event on Tuesday.
The event, organized by YMCA staff member and breast cancer survivor Sandy Ringler, featured an array of booths from local businesses. Over 300 YMCA members that walk into the facility every day were informed about breast cancer awareness.
A number of community partners came together to help make the event a success.
Trident Medical Center partnered with Susan B. Komen to educate members on life-saving procedures to detect breast cancer, H2U informed members of healthy eating habits to rid away cancer, Coca-Cola provided pink Vitamin Water, CVS administered flu shots, and Costco served light snacks at the event.
"When I think of survivor I think of eight powerful words," Ringler states, "strength, undefeated, relentless, vibrant, inspiring, valiant, optimistic, and radiant."
It's a big year for Rigler. She is a 25-year cancer survivor and will be celebrating her 70th birthday in December.
