The sheriff says the chase ended around12:15 p.m. state Highway 81 in Starr when Evans' car hit a fence. Skipper says Evans ran from the crash scene and officers used a Taser when he resisted arrest.

Coroner Greg Shore says Evans was taken to AnMed Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead around 1 p.m. Shore said Evans had a history of heart problems.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
