Officers: Man charged in Walterboro hotel room shooting

WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Walterboro Public Safety officers say a Walterboro man was shot multiple times by a 55-year-old who broke into his hotel room Saturday night.

Rodney Faulkenberry was arrested Saturday and charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm in city limits, and a weapon offense.

Officers were called out to Sunset Inn on Bells Highway around 8:20 p.m. after receiving reports of a shots fired.

According to an incident report, deputies on the scene met with the victim, who was conscious after being shot in the face, back of the head, and in the chest.

The victim told deputies Faulkenberry forced his way into his hotel room with .45 caliber revolver in hand. During a struggle to take the gun away, the gun was fired multiple times, striking the victim.

Officers say the suspect was located on Maxwell Street and taken into custody.

The victim was transported to MUSC for treatment.
