Condé Nast readers vote Charleston No. 1 US city 3 years running

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - For the third straight year, Charleston has been named the No. 1 city in the United States by Condé Nast Traveler.

Charleston was voted the top US city in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards, with an overall Readers' Choice Rating of 83.2. Nearly 80,000 people voted in this year's awards.

According to Condé Nast, readers were drawn to Charleston by "the 'insanely nice' locals who enhance 'magnificent' bed and breakfasts and 'amazing shopping'."

Readers also noted Charleston's nearby beaches, architecture, and food.

The Charleston Area CVB has posted a video featuring American Idol contestant Elise Testone to celebrate the three-peat. The video opens with, "In 2011 we were flattered. In 2012 we were tickled pink.This year, we are swept off our feet. "

The video includes a number of locals giving three reasons why everyone should visit Charleston.

Michelle Weaver, Executive Chef at Charleston Grill, says people can check out the "beautiful waterways, the food, and beautiful, amazing Lowcountry sunsets."

Herb Frazier with Magnolia Plantations and Gardens says, "You gotta come to Charleston because the weather, friendly people, and of course, Charleston is a very historic city."

The video also showcases some of Charleston's most famous locations, including the Battery, the Market, and the Charleston Harbor.

Santa Fe, New Mexico came in at No. 2, and San Francisco, California took home third place in this year's vote.
